4 Tutor Sessions to introduce Growth Mindsets to a Year 7 Form group

A great way to start the week...if nothing else, it's a bit of fun and gets the kids moving for the week. This is a powerpoint you can use weekly over a term with the theory behind Brain Gym for you and a child friendly explanation as well

This assembly investigates what makes us the same as human beings and how we must celebrate the different skills and talents we have. It then looks at the different types of bullying and advice to the bully, bystanders and victim. Includes some fun video clips when students enter the assembly hall.

The assembly looks at how Beethoven mastered a skill and faced the huge challenge of losing his hearing. The message is that we have to learn new skills with passion and commitment, we all have barriers to learning and we should listen to classical music (good for revision as well!)

This assembly imagines what the person we most love would say if they saw us cyber bullying. After looking at several scenarios, they person we most love gives us advice. Includes a short video.

4 tutor sessions to get students thinking before Easter! All Easter based problems, facts and fun!

Road safety (crossing, use of mobile phone, blind bends), bike safety (being visible)and wearing brighter clothes with some short video clips.

This is a supportive tool to help students recognise, show and regulate emotions. They give a language to how the young person is feeling. ‘I am feeling yellow today.’ They also give strategies for trying to overcome their mood as they can be made into a back-to-back flip pad which goes in the students pocket. Two slides have examples of mood scales. However, they need to be individualised to the particular student you are working with (see blank copies). The techniques for overcoming the moods should, ideally, come from the young person with support from the adult. If we write it in their language, they will own the techniques.

A presentation on how Parents can become involved in their children’s revision.

This resources looks at how to ‘change the script’ in the classroom. If what we are doing isn’t working, we need to change it. There is a staff activity based on a conversation between the teacher and students and top tips on changing the script.

A weeks worth of tutor time activities focusing on resilience.

The Six Rs of revision (RAG, Red, Revise, Review, Repeat, Rest) show the process of how to revise. This works well as either a focused week of year eleven and thirteen assemblies or a cycle of 5 x 20 minute sessions over lesson 1 & 2 (have groups of 15 students split across the year and rotate them across 5 different sessions (we had two of the same session running at once). It gives a structure to their revision and at the same time, keeps it simple as they have enough to learn already. There is an introductory assembly at the start.
